Mud-loving San Telm handicapped to strike at Fontwell

San Telm will relish the testing conditions at Fontwell today and is strongly fancied at 9/2 to land the 4.30 from what looks a handy mark.

Renee Robeson’s charge only had four runs last season but progressed with each and looks the type who has plenty more to offer.

The gelding showed a game attitude on the second of those to beat Yesyoucan by 3/4 in a competitive handicap hurdle at Haydock on soft ground off a mark of 117, and the runner-up went on to score twice and is now rated 144.

The selection then ran very well to finish a keeping on fourth of 18 to Double Ross over 2m 5f on soft ground at Cheltenham off a mark of 126 before rounding off his campaign with a solid third of 10 to Bakbenscher in a classs 2 handicap hurdle over 2m 4f at Haydock on heavy ground off the same mark.

He kept on well under pressure in the latter to be beaten just over 6 lengths, suggesting that the step up in trip to today’s 2m 6f would not be a problem.

The handicapper has since dropped him a couple of pounds to a mark of 124, and that makes him look on a very workable mark now dropped back into class 3 company.

The testing underfoot conditions are also in his favour, and at the odds on offer he rates the best bet on the card,

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Samn Telm (9/2 BetVictor – BOG)
