Nameitwhatyoulike red hot at Redcar

Nameitwhatyoulike has plenty going for him in the 2.40 at Redcar looks cracking value at 11/1.

Mick Easterby’s gelding made all over a mile on soft ground to beat Sovereign Debt at Doncaster back in April off a mark of 78 and the form looks rock solid in the context of this contest given that the runner-up is now rated 116.

Since that success he has run really well throughout the summer in some competitive affairs, and having gone up to as high as 84 is now back down to a mark of 80.

That means he is just 2lb higher than his win at Donny, and he put in a very eye-catching run last time out when fourth of 7 to Sweetnessandlight at Pontefract.

For some reason he was held up off the pace that day and after being pushed along two from home stayed on well without being knocked about to be beaten just over four lengths on ground that was too quick for him.

He now has underfoot conditions to suit, and it looks as if connections have had this as his target for some time as they have managed to keep him in-form and performing with credit while at the same time getting his mark down to a winnable one.

Another plus is that he has a decent draw in stall 17, and the straight mile will play to his strengths.

There is little doubt in my mind that he will revert to his usually front running tactics today, and with so much in his favour he is going to be difficult to peg back and a big run looks assured.
