Nottingham Forest have made a disastrous start to the season, and Newcastle look a great bet at 6/4 to pile even more misery on Steve McLaren’s men in tonight’s Carling Cup tie at the City Ground tonight (7.45pm KO).
McClaren said he and his side were too ashamed to show their faces around Nottingham following their 2-1 defeat by hated local rivals Derby on Saturday.
The Rams played 89 minutes with 10 men yet still came from a goal to secure a victory.
The win meant that McLaren has now managed with just one win from seven league games, and while he is sure to have read the riot act to his players ahead of tonight’s clash it is unlikely to be enough to cope with an in-form Newcastle side.
The Magpies have put together an impressive run and are currently sitting in fourth place in the Premiership.
They have won four of their last five matches against Forest – scoring 11 goals and conceding only two – and manager Alan Pardew will be confident that his side can do the business this evening and keep up the momentum.
To me they should deserve to be shorter than the 6/4 on offer with Victor Chandler, and that price should be snapped up while it lasts.
