520The latest installment of the UCMMA tournaments took place on Staurday night at London's Troxy UCMMA 39 which was headlined by a UK1 title fight contested between Alex Reid and Luke Sines, as well as bantamweight and lightweight title fights.
The main event was an extremely close call, with Sines getting the split decision win over Reid. Reid sounds happy that he's back competing often, though, so I expect to seeing him back again.
Inthe bantamweight title fight, Luiz Tosta got the quick submission finish over Carl Oriss. The London Shootfighter proved just how good his BJJ skills are when he locked in a heel hook early in round 1.
The lightweight title was fairly one sided with Maksym Matus wrestle-blasting Charlie Leary. Leary kept in the fight always looking for submissions but Matus' wrestling skills are so high level for UKMMA level, that it's going to take something special to get that title from
him now.
Also on the card was a great battle between Nathan Jones and Makunga Bunduku. Coming into the fight we knew it would be close and both guys came to fight. Bunduku's cardio looked very much improved this fight and it was he who got the nod this time.
Another thrilling battle was between Corrin Eaton and Chase Morton. Eaton came in at 5-0 and he stayed undefeated by pressuring Morton against the cage at every given opportunity. He landed some good right hands and looked for the takedown against the cage non-stop. Morton did have his moments but the judges unanimously decided that Eaton did
enough.
Jay Dods made his pro debut against 1-5 Ian Peters. It was going well for both guys with Dods on top and Peters looking to control off his back. However, when the fight got stood up, Dods unleashed a head kick that sounded, and no doubt felt, like an steel bar. Peters was instantly out, and the crowd were pretty scared as he didn't come round for quite a while. He was rushed to hospital and was in a stable state having
conversations before the show was over.
Also a big upset on the card was Chad Brown defeating Jason Radcliffe. Brown came into the fight 0-1 with Radcliffe 7-1. But Brown locked in a triangle choke and sent Radcliffe to sleep.
Worth a mention too was Ollie Mathis who overcame a tough opponent in Roge Gaynor and then announced that he'll be going pro in his next fight. After coming through an early barrage, Mathis managed to take control of the fight and finish in round 2.
