O’Brien’s Queen to rule at Royal Ascot

With conditions at Royal Ascot now soft and likely to get even softer Homecoming Queen looks the standout bet on the card at 7/2 in the Coronation Stakes at 3.45.

Aidan O’Brien’s tough filly found the quick going all against her when fourth to Samitar in the Irish 1000 Guineas last time out, but had previously shown that these conditions are right up her street when running away with the English equivalent at Newmarket.

The daughter of Holy Roman Emporer made all at a strong pace and quickened clear to win impressively by 9 lengths from Starscope and left the field trailing in her wake.

It was a mighty performance and it easy to forgive her latest effort given that all his best runs have come with cut in the ground.

Her main market rivals Samitar and Laugh Out Loud would both prefer a quicker surface, and that latter’s only poor performance came when trailing in 8th behind the selection in the 1000 Guineas.

To me Homecoming Queen looks to have everything in her favour this afternoon and I will be amazed if she doesn’t go off shorter than the 7/2 currently available.

At that price she simply has to be backed to land another big prize for the all-conquering Ballydoyle outfit.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 6pts win Homecoming Queen (7/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
