Ohio Gold looks on a potentially lenient mark on his handicap debut is the 4.05 at Haydock today and is of major interest at 11/4.
Colin Tizzard’s charge had some useful hurdles form to his name and his first two starts over fences have suggested that he is going to be even better as a chaser.
The first of those came over 2m at this track where he jumped well and was the only one to give the useful Majala a race.
Although eventually beaten 8 lengths, he only got tired in the closing stages and was unable to find any extra on the run-in after jumping left at the last as lack of race fitness took it’s toll.
The winner has gone to to give the form a solid boost by landing the Grade 2 Kingmaker at Warwick off an official rating of 147, and that makes the Ohio look on a handy mark off 134.
The selection went on to chase home the exciting Fago last time out in the mud over 2m 1f at Newbury, where he stayed on well to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths without ever quite threatening to get to the comfortable winner.
The pair pulled 12 lengths clear of the third, and given that Fago is Paul Nicholls’ Arkle horse it was a cracking effort.
I think that the step up in trip to 2m 4f will bring about even more improvement from Ohio Gold, and to me he has a touch of class compared to his rivals.
I had him priced up at no bigger than 2s for this, so at the 11/4 he loos overpriced on offer he rates the best bet on the card.
