Optimistic ready to roar at Ripon

Mr Optimistic is back down to his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 10/1 in the 4.30 at Ripon.

Richard Fahey’s gelding was well backed on his reappearance at Redcar but ran as if needing the race.

He raced keenly in the early stages from a poor draw and after travelling in mid-division could find no extra after making an effort a furlong from home.

In the end he finished a well beaten 11th of 15 to Arganil, but he was not knocked about was it was clear he would not be winning and has since been dropped another pound to a mark of 80.

That gives him a major chance from a handicapping perspective, and he has bagged a good draw in stall 13 this afternoon.

The four-year-old won on the all-weather at Wolverhampton off a mark of 68 last season and then followed up on the turf two starts later off today’s mark when beating Tro Nessa by a neck.

Although his form tailed off after that he was far from disgraced on his final start when sent off favourite at Ayr and finishing 14th of 22 to Magical Macey.

With Lee Topliss – who gets on extremely well with him – taking off another 3lb everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Mr Optimistic (10/1 bet65 – BOG)
