Pendleton weighted to strike on handicap debut

Pendleton scored in good style on seasonal reappearance and looks decent value at 5/1 to cash-in on what looks a lenient opening mark to follow-up on handicap debut in the 4.45 at Hyadock today.

That came in six-runner maiden auction stakes at Newcastle where the Michal Dods trained three-year-old scored by 1/2 a length from You Little Ripper.

After racing with the leader, Pendleton up the running travelling stronglty at the furlong marker and then only had to be psuhedf out to score witgh far more in hand than the winning ma rgin suggets.

It was taking perfromance and You Little Ripper was rated 79 goingh into the contest.

The pair also pulled 4 1/2 lengths clear of the third home Delachabce who has since run really well to go down by justa head to the well-regarded Local History at Yarmouth.

That gives theform a solid look and suggests an opening handicap mark of 82 for Pemdleton may well be on the lenient side.

He is also unexposed after just three starts appeals as the type to keep onside now going down the handicap route.

Pendleton was also placed in bith starts on sot ground last season, so the testing going shouldn’t be an issue, and hails from a yard that has a tremendous strike rate of just under 28 per cent with its runners at the venue in the last 12 months.
