Poetic Verse worth a punt at 14s

Poetic Verse shaped well last time out and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 14/1 in the 4.10 at Southwell today.

Rod Millman’s filly is yet to get her head in front in 11 starts, but she is a pretty consistent sort who has some solid efforts to her name and looks on a winnable mark judged on her run behind Taxiformissbyron at Kempton 13 days ago.

The three-year-old quickly found herself at the rear of the field that day but kept on really well inside the final furlong to be beaten 2 3/4 lengths.

The winner, from whom she was receiving 4lbs, went on to follow up in facile style at Wolverhampton off a 6lb higher mark (58) and was then denied the hat-trick by the narrowest of margins at Lingfield off 64.

The fifth home Precision Strike, to whom she was conceding 5lbs and beat 2 lengths, has also come out and scored twice since to give the form a really solid look.

On that effort Poetic Verse is entitled to go very close in this off the same mark of 55, and although she was a well beaten second on her only run at this venue last year it did show that she handled the surface and she is a much stronger sort now.

Her handler does quite well with his runners at the track, and Andrea Atzeni looks the perfect jockey to get the best out of her.

I certainly don’t think that she should be a double figure price to win this judged on her latest effort, and at the odds on offer she has to be worth an each-way investment.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Poetic Verse (14/1 Sky Bet)
