Trainer Mark Johnston has once again been among the winners at Goodwood this week and his Port Of Leith makes plenty of appeal at 10/1 on handicap debut in the 4.40 there today.

The colt has yet to get his head in front in four starts but has posted solid efforts on each occasion and been well-backed.

His second outing, where he finished a 1/2 a length second of eight to Yousini at Hamilton, is the one which makes him of interest in this.

Port Of Leith showed good pace to lead and sruck to the task well when headed inside the last. The winner is a useful sort who is unbeaten in two starts and he had Life Of Relliy 2 3/4 lengths behind him in fifth.

Life Of Reilly won next time up and has gone on to run some fine races in decent company, including when runner-up in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes here earlier in the week off an official rating of 95.

It makes Port Of Leith look potentially well-treated off an opening handicap mark of just 76 now going down the nursery route.

He appeals as the type that should come into his own in that sphere and with Joe Fanning in the saddle looks the pick of the Johnston runners.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Port Of Leith (10/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
