Portugal the punt to send Czechs packing

Portugal look a great bet at 3/4 with BetVictor, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power to beat the Czech Republic in the first Euro2012 quarter-final tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on BBC1)

They were arguably unlucky when losing their opening game 1-0 to joint-tournament favourites Germany, where they played some terrific football once behind and created Plenty of chances which really should have earned them at least.

It was the a different story in the next two games, as they beat Denmark 3-2 and then put in a terrific display when beating Holland 2-1 to reach the last eight.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show as he bagged both goals in their come from behind victory, and he could easily have bagged a hat-trick.

He was at his imperious best throughout, and if he turns up in anything like the same form here then there can only be one result, and that is a win for Portugal.

The Real Madrid star is a 19/5 chance with BetVictor and Stan James to net the opener, and that looks decent value if his last performance is anything to go by.

As far as the Czech Republic are concerned there won’t have been many who would have expected to end up topping Group A in the wake of a crushing 4-1 defeat against Russia on the opening night of Euro 2012.

But somehow their ageing side have pulled off the impossible with hard-fought victories over Greece and Poland showing tremendous character but having luck on their side at the same time.

That luck looks set to run out here, as they don’t have the players capable of overcoming one of Europe’s more talented sides who have really impressed with their passing and link-up play and are looking lively outsiders to go all the way and lift the trophy.

To me it looks a case of how many Portugal will win by, and I expect them to do so without conceding.

I like the look of 2-0 and 3-0 and those scorelines can be backed at 8/1 and 16/1 with Ladbrokes and Betvictor respectively. Split stakes on both looks the way to play.
