Poyle Jessica worth a punt at 9/1

Poyle Jessica makes her handicap debut in the 2.35 at Newmarket today from what looks a handy mark and makes plenty of appeal at 9/1.

Ralph Beckett’s filly has only had three starts, and shaped really well on debut over the July course at this venue when a keeping on nicely without being kncoked about to finish a 1 1/2 length fourth of 11 to Luna Moon.

The runner-up in that contest Cockney Island subsequently went on to finish a cracking fourth of 21 in a valuable sales race at Doncaster and is now rated 85, and the third home Maybe Now Baby finished a solid sixth of 16 in a valuable calss 2 nursery at Newmarket last time out off 64.

That suggests that Poyle Jessica is potentially well-treated off an opemning mark of 64 in this class 5 contest.

It’s fair to say that she has failed to build on that in two subsequent starts, but she wasn’t totally disgraced when finsihing sixth of 12 to the highly regarded Tendu at Kempton prior to bombing out at Haydock last time out.

It may well be that she will improve for the switch to handicaps, and she wouldn’t be the first from the yard to do so.

The booking of Oisin Murphy also looks a big positive as he has a 30% strike rate when teaming up with the yard in the past 12 months (3 wins and 5 places from 10 rides).

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Poyle Jessica (9/1 bet365, Ladbrokes, Stan James, William Hill – BOG)
