Price to face Thompson and then on to bigger things in 2013

Heavyweight prospect David Price believes he will show more of his ability in 2013 after being denied the chance to do so by this year’s impressive run of early knockouts.

The British and Commonwealth champion is set to fight American contender Tony Thompson in Liverpool on 23 February and insists more of his talents will next year be on show than they were in his wins over John McDermott, Sam Sexton, Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton.

“I’ve not really had time to show the improvements I’ve been making as a boxer because the fights have been so short, especially in my last two fights,” Price said.

“It is in the sparring that I know improvements are being made but the fights will come where I will start to show them.”

“By the end of next year, I hope we are at least talking about me having won a European title.

“Possibly even me having fought in a world title eliminator.

“Should I come through the fight with Tony Thompson then my world ranking should go right up.

“My shot will come and every fight is massive for me next year and my philosophy has to be that every fight is my world title fight.”
