Punchestown Festival: Smokey Joe Joe appeals at 14s

© 2012 Daily Sport Limited

Smokey Joe Joe has posted some solid efforts of late and makes plenty of appeal at 14/1 in the 3.40 at Punchestown today.

Stephen Mahon’s chareg is better known as a chaser these days and was last sucessful in that spere at Cork back in January when landing a handicap off a mark of 122.

He comes into the race on the back of four solid efforts since being switched back to the smaller obstacles, finish a length runner-up to the classy Diamond King at Thurles on his penultimate outing before finishing a solid 4 length third of 14 to Seskiane at Ballinrobe off 118.

Smokey Joe Joe has to race in this off 1lb higher, but his revised rating of 119 is just 3lb higher than when last successul over hurdles.

It’s also lower than his last three chase wins which have come off ratings of 120, 123 and 122.

He is clearly not badly treated on the pickof his form and a big plus is that he is in good form at present.

Smokey Joe Joe is also 1-1 over today’s 2m 5f trip and with Danny Hand in the saddle taking off anotjer 4lb with his claim looks weighted to go well.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Smnokey Joe Joe (14/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/5 odds 1,2,3,4,5)
