Quigg impresses plus full undercard round up

Scott Quigg made an impressive second defence of his WBA world super-batamweight title at Manchester’s Phones4u aArena on Saturday night by stopping Argentine Diego Silva in just 2 rounds. Quigg was in control from the off and KO’d the Argi in the second. Great win by Quigg who looked a lot sharper than his last outing a few weeks back in London.

Irish middleweight Andy Lee stopped Hungary’s Ferenc Hafner inside 2 rounds. Lee had him down in the first and twice more in the second before the ref had seen eniugh and called a halt at 1.19 of the round.

Manchester lightweight Anthony Crolla retained the WBO inter-continental strap at the end of 6 pretty even rounds with fellow Mancunian Stephen Foster Jr after Foster retired with an injury at the end of that round.

Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell went the distance for the first time in his pro career beating Chuck Jones on points over 4 rounds 40-36. Campbell was in control throughout but just could stop Jones like he had done with his previous 3 oppo’s.

Stephen Smith stopped Agrentine Sergio Manuel Medina to take the WBC silver strap with an 8th round KO st 2.39 of the round. Smith will now be on the look out for a world title shot in 2014.

Jamie McDonnell who was recently stripped world title stopped his French opponent Bernard Inom at 1.47 of the 7th round getting his first win with new promoters Matchroom under his belt and his career back on track to another world title shot in 2014.

Rocky Fielding stopped Luke Blackledge in the 1st to retain his Commonwealth super-middleweight title and Lytham’s Scott Cardle beat Poland’s Krysztof Szot on points over 6 rounds 60-54.

All in all a great show in Manchester at a packed venue making for a superb atmosphere.
