Red Stripes ready to cut a dash

Red Stripes looks decent value at 9/1 in the 4.45 at Goodwood today.

The gelding was last successful on the all-weather at Chelmsford back in December when trained by Brian Meehan and scoring by 1/2 a length off a mark of 81 in the hands of 7lb claimer Jordan Uys.

He got put up to 87 for that victory and has failed to trouble the judge in six starts since joining Lisa Williamson.

However, he ran a blinder from 3lb out of the weights three starts back at this venue over 5f when a 3 1/4 length eighth of 16 to Boom The Groom in class 2 contest off 86 and is now able to race in this lower grade class 4 affair off 79.

That gives him a big shout at the weights and Red Stripes also shaped better than the bare result suggests last time out when fifth at Lingfield  when racing keenly and leading a furlong from home before weakening late on.

With Uys once again in the saddle taking off 7lb with his claim he looks nicely treated on the pick of his form, especially on his run behind Boom The Groom.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Red Stripes (9/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
