Rocket fancied to blast home

Course and distance winner Rusty Rocket has been shaping as if his time is near and looks decent value at 7/1 in the 3.40 at Catterick today.

Paul Green’s colt won three times last season, starting off with victory over today’s 7f here off a mark of 67 and subsequently landing a brace of 5f handicaps at Nottingham and Haydock off 71 and 75 when the ground was officially described as good-to-soft and soft.

He was then far from disgraced off 80 when finishing a staying on never nearer 2 1/4 lengths 5th of 11 to Jack Dexter over 6f in the mud at Chester, and kicked off this season with two solid placed efforts.

The three-year-old then failed to sparkle in his next two outings, but has since bounced back with a couple of solid efforts.

The son of Majestic Missile showed plenty of dash when third to El McGlynn at Ripon and then ran a stormer two days ago at Ripon when finding only Love Island too strong over 6f.

He led until the final furlong that day and rallied well inside the last to go down by just 1 1/4 lengths, suggesting that a  step back up to 7f on this sharp track could well suit.

Given that he is 1-1 over course and distance that could well be the case, and with underfoot conditions ideal he looks sure to make a bold bid in the hands of 7lb claimer Josh Baudains off a decent looking mark of 76.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Rusty Rocket (7/1 bet365 – BOG)
