Great Scott has some smart form to his name, so now eased in grade looks cracking each-way value at 14/1 in the Group 3 Hampton Cpurt Stakes on day three of Royal Ascot (3.05).

This Tom Dascombe trained three-year-old won three of his five starts as a juvenile, inculding a Listed contest on heavy ground at Haydock when only having to be pushed out to score by two lengths.

Great Scott also ran very well when beaten just 1 1/2 lengths into third behind Magna Grecia in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster on his final start of the campaign.

The form of that race looks very strong with Magnca Grecia goingh on to land the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the runner-up Phoneix Of Spain capturing the Irish equivalent.

Circus Maximus, who came third, also landed the spoils in tje Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes here earlier in the week.

Great Scott has also run well in three starts this season, including when ninth of 19 to Magna Grecia in the 2000 Guineas and last time out in a Group 2 at Cologne when beaten just 1/2 a lenth into third.

On the pick of his form he looks a major contender in this and a big plus is that he is versatile as regards ground and has proven form on soft going.

This also represents a drop in class for Great Scott, who is the top rated in the line-up, so I think he looks overpriced what is a very wide-open looking renewal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Great Scott (14/1 Coral, Ladbrokes – BOG. paying 1/5 the odds 4 places)
