Royal Ascot: Venezia value at 20/1

Venezia looks cracking each-way value at 20/1 in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot today (5.35).

The colt shaped with plenty of promise in two starts last season when trained by Lady Cecil, finishing fourth to Windshear at Sandown and a solid third of 13 to Seagull Star at Newmarket.

He got beat just 3 1/4 lengths by Windshear and now meets that rival on 6lb better terms having run two really solid races this season since joining Martyn Meade.

In the first of those Venezia went down by just 1/2 a length to Munjaz in a 13-runner madien at Newmarket, with the pair pulling 3 lengths clear of the pack.

The third, fifth and sixth home – Connecticut, Ayrad and Min Alemarat – have all come out and won since to give the form a solid look.

Venezia then went down by just a neck to Tabreek in a 13-runner contest at Newmarket when last seen in action, with the pair pulling 5 lengths clear of the field.

Both those races were over 1m 2f, and the step up to 1m 4f today looks sure to suit.

This is a tough race for Venezia to make his handicap debut, but his opening mark of 89 looks workable on the pick of his form and he also has the services of the ultra talented Oisin Murphy in the saddle taking an invaluable 3lb off his back.

Another plus is that he has a low draw in stall 2, and everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Venezia (20/1 BetVictor, Boylesports, Paddy Power – BOG)
