Saints can hold Liverpool at bay

Liverpool take on Southampton at Anfield today (3pm KO, Live on Setanta Sports 1) and the draw looks the best value punt at the general 3/1 on offer.

The Reds are as short as 4/7 to extend their unbeaten start to the season, but they were held by Swansea last week and received a huge injury blow with the news in midweek that Phillipe Coutinho is going to be out of action for around two months.

He has been a major assett in the opening games, and with Luis Suarez still banned, Brendan Rodgers’ side are without two of their three main men in attack.

Yes, they do have the in-form Daniel Sturridge to lead the line, but if Southampton can keep him quiet then it’s hard to see where a goal is going to come from for the Merseysiders.

The Saints have also won four of the last six Premier League games against Liverpool, but the Reds have won the last two at Anfield by a 1-0 scoreline.

Given that Southampton have also looked solid and conceded few goals on their travels I can see them grinding out a draw, and another bet that really stands out as cracking value is under 2.5 goals at even money with BetVictor and Coral.
