Rocket Rob has an excellent record at Sandown and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to register another success in the 3.30 there today.
Willie Musson’s charge has a near 50% strike rate at this venue, registering 3 wins from seven starts – all over today’s trip of 5f. That is a tremendous record and entitles him to the utmost respect in this line-up from what looks a very good handicap mark.
The seven-year-old gets into this off 73 and that is just 1lb higher than when he last successful over today’s course and distance last August where he came from off the pace and overcame trouble in running to win going away by 1/2 a length from Macdillon.
He has also been running really well of late, and looked an unlucky loser three starts back over 5f here when failing by just a length to overhaul Tagula having come from way off the pace.
The son of Danetime now meets that rival on 3lb better terms and that should be enough to see him reverse the placings given how the race panned out that day.
Since then the selection has run well in two starts over 6f at Ascot and Windsor, finishing on the heels of the leaders on each occasion without being knocked about.
The drop back to the minimum trip in this will definitely be in his favour, and everything looks in place for a huge run.
He will need luck in-running given his come from behind tactics, but if he gets the breaks at the right time he is going to be extremely hard to beat from his current handicap mark.
