Sandymount Duke a punt at Punchestown

Sandymount Duke looks to have plenty going for him in the 5.00 at Punchestown today and worth a punt at 15/2.

Jessica Harrington’s eight-year-old was a useful hurdler when winning four times and finishing third in a Grade 2 contest at Cheltenham off an official rating of 138.

Sandymount Duke has taken well to chasing, winning two of his four starts over the larger obstacles, and in the last of those at Killarney should a good attitude to beat Vaylssa Monterg by 2 1/2 lengths.

The fourth home Tiger Roll has gone to to score twice since, including at last month’s Cheltenham Festival when landing the NH Chase off a rating of 145, and that gives the form a solid look.

It suggests that an opening handicap chase mark of 137 for Sandymount Duke is exploitable and although he has an absence of 209 days to overcome the gelding has a decent record fresh, has underfoot conitions to suit and hails from a yard in red-hot form.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Sandymount Duke (15/2 bet365, Sky Bet – BOG)
