Saturday tips: Cape Byron the City Of York choice

Now stepped back up to 7f, Cape Byron makes plenty of appeal at 11/2 in the Group 2 City Of York Stakes at York (3.00).

This Roger Varian trained five-year-old is lighly raced for his age and has won four of his 14 starts.

He posted a strong of solid efforst to be placed in hot handicaps last season and has taken his form to a new level this year in winning two of his three outings.

In the first of those at Ascot, Cape Byron only had to be driven out to cosily beat Kynren by a neck in the 7f Victoria Cup.

He then found the drop back to 6f now problem when following-up in the 26-runner Wokingham at Royal Ascot when shpwing s smart turn of foot to account for Tis Marvellous.

That taking success saw hi sent off a well-backed 6/1 shot for the Group 1 July Cup over 6f at Newmarket, but Cape Byron raced to freely before weakeneing to finish a 7 1/4 length 11th of 12 to Ten Sovereigns.

It’s easy to put a line through that effort and Cape Byronl will apprecaite the return to 7f – a trip over which he has won twice and been placed on three ocacsions in six starts.

Cape Byron is a strong travelling sort with a potent turn of foot and this race could set up perfectly for him as Laurens likes to blaze a trail and set a strong pace.

Laurens also now drops bac to 7f for just the third time in her career and that could make her vulnerable to a closer with a turn of foot – and Cape Byron fits that bill.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Cape Byron(11/2 bet365 – BOG)
