Sharp can cut his rivals down to size

Sam Sharp has a terrific record fresh and looks worth chancing at 14/1 to make a winning reappearance in the 4.50 at Sandown.

Ian Williams’ gelding is a useful sort on his day, as he showed when overcoming a 376 day absence to easily land a competitive handicap at Haydock last May off a mark of 82.

Although he subsequently failed to trouble the judged in his next five starts on the level, he is now just 1lb higher than when scoring at Haydock and first time up is definitely the time to catch him.

The six-year-old’s form figures after more than 100 days on the sidelines reads 2,2,1 and that has to make him of interest in this despite the fact that he faces some unexposed rivals – most notably the favourite Farhh.

Unlike the red-hot jolly, the selection is proven on the ground having run out a comfortable winner at Newbury on soft ground and that is a major plus judged on how they were finishing here yesterday.

So with the trip and ground ideal a good mark to work off, and an excellent first time out record there are plenty of reasons to believe that he could spring a bit of a shock at juicy odds.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Sam Sharp (14/1 Stan James)
