Shore Step and SDS a potent combination

Shore Step has a good record at Doncaster and looks worth siding with at 8/1 in the 5.25 there today.

Mick Channon’s trained gelding has not scored since landing a 6f handicap at the track back in September 2014 but did run some really solid races to be placed in ultra-competitive affairs last season.

They included a cracking fourth of 27 to Golden Steps in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood when beaten just over 2 lengths off a mark of 92.

He also ran well at this venue on his final start of 2015 when a 2 length third of 11 to Hoof It off 93 and is now able to race off 3lb lower.

It gives him a big chnace at the weights on the pick of his form and he shaped better than the bare result suggests when sixth last time out at Ffos Las, travelling strongly for much of the contest until weakening late on.

With Silvestre De Sousa now taking over in the saddle everything looks in place for a big run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Shote Step (8/1 bet365, Boylesports, Ladbrokes, Stan James, William Hill – BOG)
