Sir Isaac Newton a 16/1 Jersey Stakes nugget

Sir Isaac Newton looks overpriced at 16/1 in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot today given trainer Aidan O’Brien’s record in the race and makes plenty of each-way appeal (2.30).

O’Brien has won the race three times and saddled the winner of two of the last three renewals.

Sir Isaac Newton has always been held in the highest regarded, and  although turned-over at odds-on on his sole start as a juvenile in a 7f contest at Leopardstown shaped with bags of promise when runner-up to Zawraq.

He looked to be going best two from home and looked sure to win after being produced to lead inside the final furlong until getting headed close home and beaten 1/2 a length.

The pair pulled seven lengths clear of the third, and the winner is a very smart sort who has since gone on to land a Listed contest in scintillating style and was a leading fancy for the Derby utnil sufferinga  setback and missing the race.

Sir Isaac Newton was then beaten at long odds-on on seasonal reappearance at Chester in a 1m 2f maiden, but looked in need of the run and unsuited by the sharp turns of the track and soft ground.

The three-year-old then easily opened his account by 3 1/4 lengths at Gowran Park last time out when dropped back to today’s trip of 7f, quickening well despite still showing signs of inexperience.

That win will haev done his confidence the world of good and taught him plenty, and in a market domainted by a ludicrously short priced favoruite in Ivawood he looks overpriced for a yard who made a flying start to the meeting yesterday.

Daily Sport recommended bet (Posted on twitter at 5pm yesterday 16/06/15): 2pts each-way Sir Isaac Newton (16/1 Coral, William Hill – BOG)
