Sir Roderic the standout bet at Salisbury

Sir Roderic has become well-treated at rates the best bet on today’s card at Salisbury now eased in grade (5.20).

Rod Millman’s charge enjoyed a terrific 2016 when winning five times, with the last of those successes coming in a class 3 at at Sandown off a mark of 90.

He went on to finish a solid neck second at Newmarket off 95 after which he got put up to 97.

Sir Roderic largely struggled last season as a result, but did manage to make the frame on two occasions off 93 and 90.

He is now able to race off just 76, 14lb lower than when last victorious.

It gives him major claims from a handicapping perspective on the pick of his form and he travelled well for much of the race before fading to finish 11th of 20 to High Acclaim in the class 2 Spring Mile at Doncaster on seasonal reappearance.

He also wasn’t beaten too far last time out when ninth of 14 in a class 4 at Kempton and now drops into class 5 company on which he has a 50% strike rate having won two of his four starts.

With the ground also holding no fears, this weak race for the grade looks a golden opportunity for him to get back on the scoresheet.
