A cracking renewal of the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock today (3.00) and Sole Power is strongly fancied at 9/2 to land the prize for the second year running.
Edward Lynam’s star sprinter shot to fame when springing a 100/1 surprise in a lightening fast run Nunthorpe at York in 2010 when beating Starspangledbanner by 1 1/4 lengths, and proved that was no fluke when beating Kingsgate Native in this last year.
He went on to be beaten just a head into third behind Tangerine Trees in the Prix d’Labbaye at Longchamp from a poor draw on ground that wasn’t quick enough and is expected to turn the tables this afternoon.
The five-year-old comes into today’s contest on the back of two excellent seconds at Meydan back in March, and now has the fast going that he relishes.
It simply cannot be quick enough for him, and another plus is that he is at his best when coming off a strong pace over 5f.
He looks sure to get that today with the likes of the trailblazing Masamah and Tangerine Trees in the line-up, and that pair are likely to set it up for a closer like the selection.
To me Sole Power is far more solid than the strongly fancied Bated Breath, and with the advantage of race fitness on his side I am surprised that he is not clear favourite given that he has his ideal conditions.
At 9/2 he looks unbelievable value and simply has to be the bet.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Sole Power (9/2 bet365, Betfred – BOG)
