Speak The Truth ready to strike at Lingfield

Speak The Truth looked an unlucky loser last time out and is strongly fancied at 4/1 to make amends in the 1.25 at Lingfield today.

The gelding found himself quickly behind when getting squeezed up badly at the start an d his rider had to sit and wait for a gap to appear as they turned into the straight.

When one eventually did it was on the unfavoured inside and the seven-year-old came with what looked likely to be a winning run before being unable to find an extra in th last 100 yards.

In the end he went down by just 1/2 a length in finishing third to Belinsky, and there is little doubt in my mind that he would have won granted better luck in running.

The handicapper has been a bit unkind in raising him 3lb for that effort to a mark of 65, but he is still very well-treated on the pick of his form and now makes his first start for Roger Ingram having left Jim Boyle.

His current rating means that he is still 1lb lower than when registering his last success over course and distance last January where he ranb on strongly to beat Captain Dimitrius by a head in a class 5 contest.

He went on to finish an excellent length fourth of 12 to Aldermoor, again over CD in a class 5 contest, off a mark of 70 and that form looks strong in the context of this class 6 affair.

Another plus is that he is a real Lingfield specialist having won five times at the track with four of those successes coming over today’s trip of 6f.

Nathan Alison also gets on well with him and takes an invaluable 5lb of his back, and in a race which should be run to suit he rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Speak The Truth (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
