Sprint in for the 16s about Our Jonathan

Our Jonathan has been given a chance by the handicapper and with the talented Robert Tart in the saddle looks overpriced at 16/1 in the 3.30 at Doncaster today.

The gelding won the Ayr Gold Cup in 2011 off a mark of 105 and went on to land a conditions event at Haydock on his reappearance last year off a rating of 114.

He then put in a cracking effort to be beaten just a neck by Libranno in a listed contest at Salisbury, after which his form tailed off.

However he has slipped in the weights as a result, and there was plenty to like about his seasonal reappearance run two weeks ago over course and distance when he finished third of 8 to Jack Dexter.

The six-year-old showed plenty of dash to chase the leaders down the centre that day and stayed on well at the business end of affairs to be beaten just 1 1/2 lengths.

He looks sure to come on for that spin, and now meets the winner on 4lb better terms.

That gives him every chance of turning the tables, especially with Robert Tart taking another 5lb of his back.

The young rider is tremendous value for his claim, and it looks a shrewd move by Tim Pitt to secure his services for this.

Given that he is now 9lb lower than when registering his last success, the selection is certainly weighted to go in again and there is no way in my eyes that he should be available to back at nearly three times the odds of the favourite Jack Dexter judged on their run her last month.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Our Jonathan (16/1 BetVictor, Stan James – BOG)
