Aston Villa play host to Spurs in the third round of the Capital One Cup tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on Skys Sports 1) and it’s the visitors who look a decent bet come out on top at a top priced 23/20 with BetVictor.
The two clubs have met four times in the competition, with Villa winning on the last two occasions in 1987 and 1994.
However Spurs are unbeaten in their last five trips to Villa Park, all in the Premier League, and won 4-0 on their last visit on Boxing Day.
The Lilywhites have also won five of their last six third-round away fixtures in this competition, drawing the other and scoring 19 goals in the process.
That makes them look worthy favoruites to beat the Villans, especially as they have by far the stronger squad.
That could well determine the outcome of this as both sides have lots of injury problems coming into the game and are going to have to make wholesale changes to their usual starting XI.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is likely to rest many of the side that won at Cardiff on Sunday, but Villa boss Paul Lambert doesn’t have that luxury of such a strong squad to do the same.
He could be missing up to 10 players, with Saturday’s league win at Norwich coming at the cost of injuries to key men Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor, and without that duo it’s hard to say them where a goal is going to come from.
I expect Spurs to win this with a bit to spare, and am going to take a small punt on them doing so 2-0 at standout odds of 13/1 with BetVictor.
