Spurs v QPR – London Derby Preview

Another London derby today (4pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1) and Spurs look bankers at 2/5 to continue their good run and beat QPR at White Hart Lane.

Harry Redknapp’s men have lost just one of their last 20 home games in the Premiership and are also unbeaten in the last 16 London derbies on their own patch.

They come into the game having taken 16 points from the last 18 available – their best run of form since January 2005.

By stark contrast their opponents have won none of their last eight top flight London derbies away from home (D2 L6) and were lucky to cling on and beat nine-man Chelsea 1-0 in their last match.

Put quite simply, Spurs should be far too strong for the Hoops this afternoon, and I expect them to register a comfortable victory.

However for those who don’t like to play odds-on there looks to be some value to be had in the goal scorer markets.

Emmanuel Adebayor has played against six London clubs in the Premier League and netted at least once against all of them, and the Spurs striker has not surprisingly been chalked up as the 3/1 favourite to net first.

He can also be backed at even money to score anytime with boylesports, Sky Bet and Victor Chandler, and the stats suggest that could be a decent.

However the Lilywhites also have another red-hot striker in the shape Rafael van der Vaart who can be backed at bigger odds in both markets and looks better value from a punting perspective.

The Dutchman has scored five goals in his last four Premier League appearances and is a top priced 5/1 with Blue Square to net the opener. That looks too big as does the 5/4 on offer with Victor Chandler for him to score anytime in the 90 minutes.

I would suggest backing him in both markets, with the larger stake on the latter to hopefully secure a profit.
