Standing Ovation primed for repeat Badger Ales success

© 2012 Daily Sport Limited

Standing Ovation has a superb record at Wincaton and at 11/2 looks the one they all have to beat in the Badger Ales Trophy there today (2.40).

David Pipe’s gelding was in terrific form when landing a four-timer in the second half of 2013, with three of those victories coming at this venue where he is unbeaten.

The last of those successes came in this contest, where Standing Ovation won easing down  by 5 lengths.

He made a mockery of his handicap mark and won with tons in hands, and although now 11lb higher in the weights has shown that he can be comeptitive off his current mark of 131.

The seven-year-old finished an excellent sixth of 23 off it behind Holywell at the Cheltenham Festival and looked as good as ever when runner-up to Roalco Des Farges on seasonal reapperance at Cheltenham last month.

Standing Ovation travelled strongly and jumped well throughout at the head of affairs and held every chance approaching the last before being unable to find any extra on the run-in to be beaten 4 1/2 lengths.

That run should have put hin spot on for this, and the return to a right-handed track is a big plus.

All four of his chase successes have come going clockwise, and there is little doubt that this will have been his early season target for some time.

To me he looks the type who could improve further this season, and with Tom Scudamore in the saddle everything points to a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Standing Ovation (11/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
