Stanlow put in a much improved effort last time out and is strongly fancied at 5/1 to go one better in the 2.00 at Lingfield today.
Mark Loughnane’s gelding showed little in three maiden runs and was well-breaten on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton 8 days ago when well-backed.
Connections clearly expected better that day and he duly put in a much improved performance when turned out a day later at the same venue and finishing second of 10 to the well-weighted Daniel Thomas.
He raced prominently that day until getting outpaced two from home but then rallied to be beaten 2 lengths.
The pair pulled 6 lengths clear of the third, and it was an effort which suggested that the selection would be more than capable of winning races off his current mark of 50.
The fact that he was well-backed on his handicap debut and entered up in three races within an 8 day period suggests that his shrewd connections believe that he is on a handy mark and capable of far better than he has shown, and he now gets fitted with the visor for the first time.
That may well sharpen him up and bring about further improvement judged on his run last time out, and another plus is that his handler has an impressive 39% strike rate with his runners at the track in the past 12 months (23 runners, 9 winners and 2 placed).
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Stanlow (5/1 BetVictor, Boylesports, Coral – BOG)
