Staxton has posted some solid efforts of late and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 18/1 in the 3.00 at Newmarket today.
The Tim Easterby trained colt won twice as a juvenile and also ran well in defeat. They included when third in a Listed contest at York and third in a similar grade affair at Doncaster off a rating of 103 om both occasions.
Staxton is now able to race off 100 and comes into the race on the back of two fine efforts.
In the first of those he was beaten just 1 3/4 lengths when a keeping on fourth of 20 to Encrypted at York.
He now meets the winner on 6lb better terms yet can be backed at double the odds of that rival.
Staxton has since finished a staying on fourtn of 13 to Solar Flair in a decent contest at Newcastle where he had some useful types in behind.
Those runs suggest he has a big prize in him and should be capable of winning races from his current mark.
With the yard contiuing in good form he looks overpriced in this, especially in realtion to Encrypted, and a bold show looks on the cards.
