Sir Boreas Hawk is potentially thrown in at the weights in the finale at Carlisle and is of major interest at 8/1.
Alan Swinbank’s gelding has been off the track for 834 days, but it looks significant that his shrewd handler has persevered with him and he now returns to action off a mark of just 115.
That looks incredibly lenient given that he once chased home the highly talented Tazbar in a bumper race before going on to land two novice hurdles in the style of very useful performer.
He started life off in handicaps off a mark of 128 back in 2007, and finished an excellent runner-up off that rating when chasing home Master Nimbus at Wetherby.
The gelding was then far from disgraced when finishing seventh of 13 to Nampur in a competitive class 2 handicap at Aintree off 125 following 738 days on the sidelines before flopping in his sole start over fences.
His run at Aintree (in 2009) showed that he still retained plenty of ability, and he now returns to the fray in a class 4 event off 10lb lower.
That gives him an outstanding chance from a handicapping perspective, and connections seem to have found him the ideal opening to score and overdue success if fit and ready to roll at the first time of asking.
At 8/1 I think he is overpriced and expect him to take all the beating.
