Tawseef looks terrific

Tawseef has been shaping better than his form figures suggest and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 16/1 in the 2.50 at Southwell today.

Roy Brotherton’s gelding caught the eye at Wolverhampton four starts ago over 1m 1f when slowly away and staying on to finish a never nearer 6th of 8 to Beggars Belief off a mark of 52.

He then duly built on that effort on his next start over a mile at Kempton when staying on from well off the pace to finish third to Querido off 50, and ran far better than his finishing position suggests next time up when 8th of 12 to Lovat Lane over 7f at that track.

The four-year-old was forced to race wide that day and could never get competitive as a result, and was not knocked about to be beaten just under six lengths.

He then again caught the eye last time out at Wolves over 7f when finishing sixth of 12 to Jonnie Skull, where after starting awkwardly he was forced to race wide to get a good position but travelled well until fading a furlong from home

the handicapper has since dropped him another 2lb to a career-low mark of and given that he was a solid third to Methayal at Brighton last October off a mark of 56 he now looks handicapped to belated break his duck under rules if the cards drop right.

The drop back in trip to 6f also looks sure to suit, and if he takes to the fibresand surface he must go close.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Tawseef (16/1 bet365 – BOG)
