Taz a devilishly good bet

The well-treated Tazaamun looks a cracking bet at 100/30 to open his account in the 3.00 at Ayr today.

David O’Meara’s gelding has been well-backed on both his starts since coming over from Ireland, and showed that he was up to winning a race of this nature when runner-up to Cheeky Wee Red over course and distance last time out.

He led until being headed inside the last that day and probably had too much use made of him to early by his young rider, and Paul Mulrennan takes over in the plate this afternoon.

The gelding has been put up 1lb for that effort to a mark of 56, but judged on his form when trained by Kevin Prendergast he still looks potentially well in at the weights.

He finished a fair fourth of 12 to Long Journey home at Navan last June before coming 9th of 17 to Why But Why on his handicap debut at Fairyhouse off a mark of 60.

The well bred son of Shirocco, who is a half brother to a couple of useful sorts, travelled well for much of the 1m 2f journey in the latter, and after being ridden to dispute the lead two from home only faded out of contention in the final furlong.

He finished in front of Elizabeth Coffee who has gone on to score four times and Aragon Rouge who himself has also gone on to notch two wins, with the last coming off a rating of 70.

That makes him look well weighted, and in a race severely lacking any real strength in depth he is a confident selection to land the spoils.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts each-way Tazaamun (100/30 sportingbet)
