The Pentagon a 50/1 each-way Investec Derby punt

The Pentagon looks overpriced and worth an each-way wager at 50/1 in the Investec Derby at Epsom today (4.30).

Aidan O’Brien’s charge won two os his four starts as a juvenile and stayed on well on his final start of the canpaign when a 2 3/4 length third to Saxon Warrior in the Group 1 Racing Post juvenile over 1m at Doncaster.

He was then unsuited by heavy ground when a tenderly handled third of 4 to stable companion Nelson on return to action at Leopardstown before posting a far better efort last time out when a 1 length third to Hazapour in at Leoparstown over 1m 2f.

The Pentagon was sent off 6/5 favoruite for that contest and only dropped to third close home.

Hazarpour was sent off 16/1 that day and the runner-up Delano Roosevelt – who finished jst a neck in front of his stable companion – 9/2.

I thought it was a decent run from The Pentagon who still looked to be in need of the race.

The step up to 1m 4f promises to suit and he can now be backed at more than four times the odds of Hazarpour and Delano Roosevelet.

His stable companion and red-hot favourite Saon Warrior is clearly the one they all have to beat, but at the odds on offer I think The Pentagon is well worth an each=way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way The Pentagon (50/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3)
