The Sawyer will relish the testing conidtions in the Peter Marsh at Haydock today (3.30) and looks cracking each-way value at 9/1.
Bob Buckler’s 12-year-old’s is on a long losing run having last tasted success at Cheltenham back in January 2010.
However that run came off a mark of 140 and he is now down to just 131 – his lowest rating for three years.
That gives him every chance of scoring an overdue success, and alhtough he hasn’t been in the winners’ enclosure for a while he has run anumber of solid races and shaped really well last time out when staying on to finish third to Mostly Bob at Cheltenham.
He is very closley matched with Mon Mome who finished 7 lengths in front of him in second, but there is a good chance that he will turn the tables now that he has his preferred ground.
The chestnut is at his best when the mud is flying, and it will certainly be a real testing mud bath today.
He is also a really sure footed jumper who likes to be up with the pace, and off just 10st 8lb I think he will take some pegging back.
Everything looks in place for a huge run, and at the odds on offer he looks an each-way steal.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way The Sawyer (9/1 Hills – BOG)
