The Tichborne worth a tickle at 28s

The Tichborne has been given a massive chance by the handicapper and looks worth chancing at 28/1 to take advantage in the 5.00 at Ascot

Roger Teale’s gelding ha snot been at his best this season but showed a bit more sparkle two starts back  when staying on from the rear to finish 7th of 13 to Mizwaaj at Kempton.

He then ran better than his finishing position suggests at Epsom over this trip last time up where he raced with far more of his usual dash before coming under pressure two out and weakening inside the last to finish 7th of 10 to Klynch.

The handicapper has since dropped him a further 3lb to a mark of just 67, and that makes him outstandingly well-treated judged on his excellent third of 29 to Sagramor in the class 2 Britannia Handicap here at last year’s Royal meeting

He led for much of the mile journey that day, and only got collared close home and lost second place in the last 50 yards to be beaten just 3/4 of a length.

It was a terrific effort off a mark of 87, and is he could reproduce it he would be chucked in here off 20lb lower in class 4 company.

It would be no surprise to see him bounce back off such a lowly mark, and although backing him clearly comes with risks attached it looks a risk worth taking at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way The Tichborne (28/1 bet365 – BOG)
