Tis Marvellous makes plenty of appeal in Stewards’ Cup

Tis Marvellous looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and having shaped really well in both his starts this season worth a punt at 10/1 in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood today (3.40).

In the first of those at Newmarket, he stayed on nicely under a considerate ride to finish
a 1 1/2 length fifth of 15 to Gifted Master. It was highly promising return to action after an 80 day break and he is now set to meet the winner – who went into the race with the benefit of a previous run – on 1lb better terms.

Tis Marvellous has since run a cracker to finish a 1 length fourth of 28 to Bacchus in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. After racing towards the far side from stall five, he made good late headway when switched right two from home to be gaining all the way to the line.

It was a fine effort, especially given that four of the first six home were drawn 16 or higher, so a 2lb rise in the weights does not look harsh at all.

A revised rating of 102 still looks very exploitable given that Tis Marvellous finished third to Blue Point in a Group 3 at Ascot last season off an official rating of 110.

The winner landed this year’s Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and Harry Angel – who finished just over 2 lengths in front of the selection in second – has since landed two Group 1 contests.

That is extremely strong form in relation to this and Clive Cox’s charge looks primed to run a massive race.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Tis Marvellous (10/1 Betfair, William Hill – BOG, 1/5 odds five places)
