Chosen Character has a terrific record at Haydock and looks overpriced at 12/1 in the finale there today (5.50).

Tom Dascombe’s charge has raced five times at the track – winning three, finishing runner-up once and fourth on his racecourse debut.

Two of his wins have also come over today’s 1m trip and although he is now 7lb higher than when registering his last success (over CD) he is just 2lb higher than when an excellent neck second to Captain Bertie in a strong class 2 handicap at Chester three starts back.

He looked better than ever that day and was arguably unlucky not to win as he likes to race up with the pace but fluffed that start and had to be rushed up to get a good early position.

In the circumstances it was a terrific effort and he holds one of today’s rivals Weapon Of Choice on that running as he had him a further 6 lengths behind in fifth and now meets him on just 4lb worse terms.

It’s fair to say that the selection has disappointed somewhat in two subsequent starts, but they have also come in class 2 contests and he now takes a slight drop back in grade to class 3 company.

That should enable him to be far more competitive, and may well see him return to form now that he is back at a track which he clearly runs particularly well and his trainer has a 27% strike rate with his runners in the past 12 months.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Chosen Character (12/1 BetVictor – BOG)
