Truffle a tasty bet to open account at Kempton

Black Truffle looks to have been found a nice opening in the 6.50 at Kempton this evening and rates a solid bet at 4/1.

Mark Usher’s colt hinted that he had ability in five maiden runs before putting in a much improved effort on his handicap bow over 6f at Lingfield.

After being held up in mid-division on the inside he didn’t have much room to manoeuvre two out before staying on strongly under pressure to be beaten just 1/2 a length into third by Katy Spirit.

He was sent off the well-backed 9/4 favourite on the back of that effort at Wolverhampton next time up but looked to be given too much to do.

After being held-up at the rear of the field well off the pace he made good headway a furlong out and stayed on strongly inside the last to be finish a 1 3/4 length 6th of 11 to the gambled on Hazza The Jazza.

The winner has since gone on to score again at Kempton to give the form a boost and the selection ha since gone on to finish a solid third of 9 to Sweet Force over 7f at Lingfield last time out.

The son of Kyllachy raced far more prominently that day and travelled well for much of the contest before being unable to quicken when the tempo was upped.

In the end he could only stay on at the once pace top be beaten just over three lengths, and I feel that the drop back down to 6f will be in his favour.

His latest efforts suggest he is more than capable of winning races off his current mark of 49, and this looks a good opening in a race that lacks any real strength in depth.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Black Truffle (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
