Tanawar has been given a chance by the handicapper and looks decent value at 9/1 in the 5.20 at Redcar today.

The gelding failed to win in 11 starts for William Haggas and Tim Etherington, but looked sure to win races when shaping with plenty of promise on his sole run as a juvenile at Doncaster when staying on nicely to finish 5th of 15 to Mar Mar, and ran a number of solid races to be placed at the start of last year.

Those included a second to Run It Twice on the all-weather at Wolverhampton off an opening handicap mark of 67 where he ran on strongly to go down by just a neck over 1m 1f.

He was then far from disgraced when finishing a 4 1/2 length fourth of 9 to Debdebdeb in a mile maiden at Kempton, and the winner developed into a decent handicaper who is now rated 91.

The selection now gets into today’s contest off a career-low mark of 60, having shaped far better than the bare result suggests in two starts this season since joining Ruth Carr.

In the first of those, Tanawar travelled very strongly until weakening late on to finish sixth of 14 to Charles De Mille at Newcastle, and that was followed by a not knocked about 9th of 12 to Ralphy Boy at Mussleburgh last time out when he was never out in the race at any stage.

Those two ruins should have  put Tanawar spot on, and his stable are now in good form and have a near 21% strike rate with their runners at the track.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Tanawar (9/1 bet365, Betfred, BetVictor, Hills  – BOG)
