Simon a steal at 13/2
Young Simon has been shaping as if ready to strike and having slipped to a handy mark makes plenty of appeal at 13/2 in the 4.15 at Wolverhampton.
George Margarson’s gelding has caught the eye on his last two starts, and is now 1lb lower than when last scoring at Kempton back in January.
He stayed on well under tender handling after being badly hampered at the start to finish a never nearer 5 1/2 length 6th of 10 to Doctor Hilary over 6f at Kempton two starts ago, and then enjoyed no luck in running whatsoever over course and distance a week ago.
Held up in mid division travelling powerfully that day, he seemed sure to play a hand in the finish until finding himself with nowhere to go a furlong from home.
The gelding met all sorts of trouble as his rider tried to find an out inside the last, and eventually had to accept that he was not going to get there.
In the end he was beaten just over three lengths, and granted a clear passage I think he would have gone very close indeed.
The plus side is that the handicapper has now dropped him a further pound to a career low mark of 52, and granted better luck in running he must go close off such a lowly rating.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Young Simon (13/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
Fault looks fantastic at 7s
Fault signalled a return to form with an eye-catching fourth last time out and looks an each-way steal at 7/1 in the 5.45 at Wolverhampton.
the gelding was last successful off a mark of 65 at Leicester back in July when trained by Stef Higgins and gets in this contest off a rating of just 58.
Now in the care of Alistair Lidderdale, the five-year-old put some disappointing efforts behind him when a staying on fourth in a seller over course and distance four days ago.
He kept on really nicely without being subjected to a hard time to be beaten 2 1/2 lengths by Faithful Ruler, and if building on that effort must go close now switched back to handicap company.
Amy Scott, who ride him to good effect that day, is back on board this evening and takes a further 5lb off his back to make him looks very well treated indeed.
With conditions in his favour, and a good draw in stall five he must take all the beating.
Daily Sport recommended bet; 2pts each-way Fault (7/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
