UCMMA kicked off 2014 with a fight card that was topped with Alex Reid taking on Tony Giles in a UK1 title fight bout in the super-middleweight division. The Troxy was full to the rafters and what a great party crowd for the fight which was for a Children’s Cancer charity.

Tony Giles showed he was a new man and came out with great combos in the 1st round but Reid pressed forward for the majority of the fight and the judges took note as they handed him a split decision win 29-28 Giles, 29-28 Reid and 30-27 Reid much to the dismay of the Team Gypsy supporters.

Ring Walk Tony GilesReid was far too strong in the clinch and that was where most of his work was done, with knees to the head of Giles.

Giles v Reid 4Tony did connect a good few times to Reid’s face however it wasn’t enough as Reid just smiled and continued to walk forward.

Giles v Reid 3It was a good scrap and one that was definitely worth the ticket money.

Giles v Reid 2These 2 fighters became hero’s by the end of the night I for one would love to see a rematch because we all want to see it again.

In the co-main event, Arydas Juska and Catalin Zmarandescu squared off in a light heavyweight battle which was another great scrap. Catalin came out the stronger of the two, taking the fight to the floor and showing some good top game. However in the second round, Juska clinched up and landed around 5 knees to Catalin’s head before throwing multiple punches and finishing it off on the ground with heavy ground and pound.

Karlos Vemola and Luiz Tosta defeated Marvin Campbell and Vinny Baldwin respectively, both of which were expected on paper.

Maksym Matus caused the upset of the night with a win over Richard Griffin. He gritted out a unanimous decision after wrestling Griffin for the 3 rounds. Matus showed great potential and with some work on his stand up game, he could do well.

Michael Beaumont moved to 3-0 with a win over Fash Ostowar. After a tentative start, Beaumont got the fight to the floor and began to work, securing the top position and landing some heavy ground and pound.

Chase Morton landed on planet earth with a convincing win over Sirbu Florin in his featherweight debut.

Nathaniel Wood showed his hand speed once again as he caught Abdullah Saleh flush and ended it early.

Affie Davis looked awesome with a win over Cilas Matos taking his pro record to 1-0.
