Ultimate Avenue was a massive eye-catcher last time out and looks to have plenty going for him at 11/2 in the 2.45 at Goodwood today.
Ed Walker’s charge got not luck in-running when a 3/4 length third of 19 to Ekhtiyaar in a hot 6f handicap at Newmarket.
After being held-up well off the pace by jockey Jamie Spencer, he was making good headway travelling well when denied a clear run a furlong from home.
Ultimate Avenue then had to be switched right to see daylight and finsihed with a real rattle to be gaining all thge way to the line.
Granted a clearer passage there is no doubt in my mind that he would have won and the form of the race has worked out well with the fourth and fifth home, Golden Apollo and Bacchus having both won since.
It makes a 3lb rise in the weights look more than fair and the step back up to 7f, over which he has notched his sole career success so far, is sure to suit.
