Vermaelen value to score for Gunners

Arsenal are the form side in the Premier League and look bankers to beat Aston Villa at the Emirates today (3pm KO).

The Gunners made it six wins in a row with a 1-0 victory at Everton on Wednesday when they went for the hosts from the start, got an early goal from Thomas Vermaelen and battled to protect it.

Arsene Wenger was particularly pleased with his side’s defensive resilience and given that they have not been lacking on the goal scoring front it would be a brave person who would bet against them not beating the Villans.

The visitors have been hit hard on the attacking front since the departure of Robbie Keane and injury to Darren Bent and simply lack the cutting edge to win games.

Put quite simply, Arsenal should win this with the minimum of fuss, however
backing them at 4/11 is not really my cup of tea, so I am going to suggest having a small punt on Vermaelan scoring.

The centre-back is Arsenal’s joint-second top scorer in the league this season, and has bagged five goals in his last 17 games.

Most of his goals have also come in streaks. He netted three in six earlier in the season and with strikes in his last two games another could well be on the cards.

To me that makes him look value at 11/2 with Hills and Sky Bet to score anytime – especially as many firms go as short as 4/1.
