Villa to big at 3/1 to beat the Magpies

Aston Villa look too big at 3/1 with bet365 and Betfred to win their away game at Newcastle today (1.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1).

The home side are as short as evens in places to bag all three points, and that is due to their excellent record against Villa.

The Magpies are unbeaten in the last seven league games against Villa at St James’ Park (W4,D3) and in the last five home and away (W3,D2).

However, they are on a dreadful run at present and have failed to score in seven of the last eight Premier League games.

Last week’s 4-0 hammering at Spurs was also their fourth straight outing without finding the net, and that makes them worth taking on at the odds on offer in my book with a Villa side more than capable of springing a surprise if bringing their “A game” to the table.

Paul Lambert’s men picked up more points on the road than at Villa Park last season and that trend has continued this term.

They have gone three games without success since beating West Brom 4-3 last month but are very dangerous on the break and in Christian Benteke have a striker capable of causing the Newcastle back-line all sorts of problems.

He has scored in each of his two Premier League games against Newcastle, and at 6/1 with Betvictor and Stan James looks worth a punt to score the opener.

You can also get 2/1 with Stan James about him netting anytime, and that looks too big given that he is as short as 6/4 elsewhere.
